Designing Woman

Goals, Plans, Objectives, To-do Lists these individually and even collectively are the sure sign of achievers. And already by this time of the year most of ours have already hit a snag. It has always been my bent to do and not to think a long time about it. If a thought enters my mind it immediately activates the feet or the hands. Perhaps it is my fear that without the action the likelihood is too great that this world altering thought will be lost to the void…forever.

What I have been challenged by is not bringing force to an idea but the focus that helps me complete what is most important.

Over the course of the past several years, I have really researched ways to work on teams to make the work I share meaningful and truly collaborative. I found myself intrigued by the human centered design work put forth by IDEO.org and by the work coming out of their Dschool. With the work I have done in education and leadership with the next generation this motivates me to understand that the best solutions to problems come from those who live and experience the problem.

Often this designing work needs to begin with ourselves. The book, Designing Your Life has been my first read of my 2017. It is worth your time.  I am coming to the realization that my life is only about 40% done. Not because I know the length of my days but to think of any percentage higher is to start to give up, to slow down, to think that my best is behind me when I believe that it is ahead.

This NPR Morning Edition soundbite will get you warmed up.

I am going to check out the Designing Your Life community on Facebook.  You can read all of the features and interviews Bill and Dave did to kick off 2017 and pick up the book on Amazon. Here’s a blessing for a year that is in concert with the Designer God himself your best designed yet.
