Gratitude Every Day

It’s an American season of giving thanks! I know that it doesn’t seem to be true if you only listen to the cultural beat or the daily news. You may argue Mary it is only one day, not a month or more. I would remind us all that that one day we call Thanksgiving came out of the discipline and practice of a people who modeled daily thanks in the midst of life we can barely comprehend for its starvation and scarcity.

Wow, can you imagine an example so powerful it is being remembered hundreds of years later?

We are a people richly, RICHLY blessed.

Here’s the truth,

Grace without gratitude decays to entitlement.

Gratitude has a very short shelf life. We need to say thanks often. We need to tell others thanks often. We need to remember every day our thanks for what we have. It doesn’t happen without great intention and daily practice. Giving thanks for the smallest gift is a doorway to seeing more gifts that are hidden in plain sight.

Every one of you who receives this today is a gift to me. A gift of a kindred spirit. a gift of the incredible diversity of a community. I thank my God every time I think of you. Gratitude every day many times a day is a small exercise that opens our eyes to see how richly blessed we are.

What are you giving thanks for? Let’s give thanks.

I am very grateful for the small things that let me know someone thought of me. It is incredible that we continue to remember that day. I love it.
