Habits of Connection

Do you want to know the best habits of any relationship? This is so simple that it is easy to miss. Really easy to miss.

That’s how it is in life.

When something is so simple we think anyone and everyone can do this. But they don’t. We think we do this but we don’t.

We don’t notice when we don’t do it but funny enough we do notice when others don’t do it.

With the increase of smartphone use, we aren’t paying attention to any one person or any one thing for any meaningful length of time. I see this in checkout lines. I see this when I am driving in my car and glancing at what’s going on in my car and in other cars. I see it in my own home. We think in our heads that these two simple ways to make and keep a connection are happening. But they aren’t.

These two simple habits are contained in a kindergarten song called, “Magic Words”. Ageless and universal they are underused.

There are two little magic words
That will open any door with ease.
One little word is, “Thanks!”
And the other little word is, “Please!”

When you’d like to ask for someone’s help,
And you’re not sure where to begin.
“Please” will start you off,
and “thanks” comes at the end.

Meaningful connection starts and continues with some simple basics. These heartfelt words are the glue of relationship which is the point of connection. When we are distracted or moving too fast we neglect the simple things that make life go better. Pay attention today to simple ways to make a meaningful connection.

Let me start your Monday with please know that I am grateful for you.

Thank you for reading and commenting on my meanderings and when you share a post it motivates me to think clearly and share what is most excellent and helpful.
