Marriage by the Decade

Decade 1 –  Productivity  – 6 kids and 4 moves. The 2 most productive words at your disposal are yes and no. Saying yes to this many children in this amount of time meant Gary and I said no to many other things. This yes and no intention also helped us to refine goals and create healthy boundaries.

Decade 2 –  Capacity – Cancer, Navy retirement, 3 kids, and 2 moves. As we chose this large and moving life we learned to be stretched way past our comfort zone. Capacity is just the vessel’s ability to hold. We chose to fill our vessel to capacity with courage, love, trust, hope, and faith.

Decade 3 –  Tenacity – Losing family and friends and experiencing small losses in our physical ability. This is the season of life where you begin to more frequently lose things on earth. Tenacity isn’t holding on to what you cannot keep. Tenacity is knowing that what you give to God you can’t lose.
