Read aloud

She read books as one would breathe air,

to fill up and live.

Annie Dillard
This post is about a mere fraction of the Christmas books, I have collected and enjoyed reading and sharing. Please do comment on this post and share yours! You can click on the book’s image for more information.

The story of Elijah’s Angel is a tale involving both the seasons of Hanukkah and Christmas! I not only love the primitive art in the book but also how the story crosses the boundaries of age, race, and religion.
This story is Christmas, Good Friday and Easter rolled all together. It is a beautiful tale to bring to life with a trio of students any time of the year.
I will buy almost any book illustrated by Barbara Cooney. Miss Rhumphius, Roxaboxen, Emily, Eleanor are all titles in which the pictures and the story both delight me. Do a search for her books first in your library if you have a child in your life that you want to share a delightful illustrated story.
Another weakness Mary? Yes! Pop-up books combined with Christmas means fatal attraction. Resistance is futile.
The Christmas Story visualized in so many forms continues to bring gratitude and humble awareness of JOY and PEACE at this time of year
I didn’t include Tomie dePaola’s pop-up version that is out of print and somewhat costly but if you are curious do check it out. His illustrations of other tales and legends from other culture’s celebration of Christmas always helps me see the world from another perspective.
Alright already with the weaknesses but alphabet books are a great theme for collection and this Christmas version has tremendous art.
Great art, Great author and the greatest story every told.
