This short piece is one part of my personal morning routine. You can read the whole article by subscribing to my blog.
When I got my married, Gary and I made some agreements. We made a commitment to practice going to sleep and waking up at the same time. For over 30 years that habit has been a daily practice that has been an anchor for our marriage. Having nine children, has presented many obstacles to keeping that practice but essentially that is the rhythm we keep.
My husband wakes up very early, so the way we optimize this goal is, after his own solitude, he comes back to bed. We spend about ten to fifteen minutes snuggling before we wake the rest of the family.
I have to be honest: if I do anything else before this, besides my own early waking in-bed meditation, I find that I have already mentally taken off on my day. Then I don’t have the presence for my husband and our relationship, so I have learned, and continue to learn, to focus and give my presence. This early morning connection is the way we start our day together.
Everyone must find those habits that bring them closer to the goals they desire. Know that these are established for Gary and I but it has taken small steps consistently practiced over all these years.
What habits help you start the day strong?
P.S. Research backs up that as you age you rise earlier so give it time!
